How To Make Gold Foil Banknotes
Making gold foil banknotes is a complex process that combines advanced technology and artistic design. What is gold foil banknote? Gold foil banknotes are usually designed by combining gold foil with the banknote to enhance its visual effect and anti-counterfeiting. The gold foil is a thin sheet made by rolling gold or other metallic materials. The base material of banknotes needs to be able to firmly support the gold foil without affecting the printing process.
The following are the main steps for making gold foil banknotes:
Step 1: Selecting materials and customizing dies
The raw material of gold foil banknotes must be high-quality/purity. We can design and engrave the minted dies according to the customer’s customized requirements.
Step 2: Melting and forming
After grinding and cleaning the selected materials, put them into the gold melting furnace for high-temperature melting. After melting, pour the melted metal liquid into a graphite mold, and it becomes a gold bar after cooling. The whole gold bar can be cut into small pieces for subsequent processing.
Step 3: Use a Rolling Mill to make gold foil sheets
Rolling mills are divided into Breakdown Rolling Mill, Rolling Mill, and Four-high Finishing Rolling Mill according to the use order. Gold has extremely strong ductility.
Firstly, the gold bar will be put into the Breakdown Rolling Mill and rolled multiple times to a 5mm gold strip thickness.
Then will be rolled down to a thickness of 0.1mm gold sheets and become gold foil sheets several dozen meters long.
Finally, using the Four-high Finishing Rolling Mill to rewind back and forth multiple times, which can accurately roll the gold foil sheets from 0.1mm to 0.005mm, making them very thin gold foil sheets.
The Four-high Finishing Rolling Mill adopts a servo motor and intelligent control system, which is easy to operate and precisely adjusted. The gold foil sheet is smooth and uniform. The thickness of the gold foil banknote is basically from 0.01mm to about 0.008mm, which can provide an aesthetic effect without affecting the flexibility and durability of banknotes.
Step 4: Cutting the gold foil sheets
The Manual and Automatic Sheet Cutting Machine is equipped with a knife die specially designed for cutting gold foil sheets, which can easily cut various specifications gold sheet. After cutting, each piece of gold foil sheet must be weighed. The standard weight is about 1g, and the value is accurate to the decimal point. It is usually difficult for us to accurately control the weight of the gold foil. So it is recommended to make the weightless.
We can heat it on an induction heater and add appropriate pieces of gold foil sheet to reach the s weight. If the cut gold foil sheet is overweight, it needs to be put back into the gold melting furnace for re-melting.
Step 5: Press the gold foil sheet
Spread the gold foil sheet flat on clean paper, cleaning the surface before minting, and place the gold foil sheet on the minted die for minting.
Use the Hydraulic Press Machine to stamp the gold foil sheet into the gold foil banknote, then carefully remove the gold foil banknote with the embossed pattern from the die. Each gold foil banknote weighs about 1g and is 9999 pure gold. Each gold foil banknote is beautiful and smooth and has great ornamental and commemorative value.
Step 6: Printing and anti-counterfeiting features
If you need to increase the complexity and security of a gold foil banknote, you can print it with a composite process. After the gold foil banknote is applied, the banknote’s other graphics and text may be processed using different printing techniques (such as gravure printing, laser engraving, etc.).
Step 7: Packing
Packing in capsules or sealing with an Auto Sealing Machine can protect the gold foil banknotes from damage and avoid friction or contamination of the gold foil banknotes. If the gold foil banknote is a single-sided design with high relief, we will use capsules to pack the gold foil banknotes. If the gold foil banknote is a double-sided design with low relief pressed by a laser marking die, we will use the plastic sealer to seal the gold foil banknote for protection.
